An area has gained 20% to 300 new animals. how many animals was it in the beginning?

If we gained 300 animals by multiplying a number by 0.2 (20%) then we get the folloeing equation

(0.2)x = 300

To solve for the original number of animals, we can divide both sides by 0.2

x = 1,500 animals to begin
