Count how many times you would have to multiply that decimal by 10, or how many places to the right you would have to move the decimal point past 4...which is 5 times so you would have to raise 10 to the -5th power to do so...then you number is:

4.1X10^-5

The answer is 4.1 x 10^-5 because you have to move to decimal point to make the number greater than one but lesss than ten so in this case 4.1. Since we moved the decimal to the right 5v times the power is negative 5.
