You can rewrite the second equation because you know what y equals, so you can write it as 2x + x + 3 = 9
3x + 3 = 9
- 3
3x = 6
÷ 3
x = 2

And now you use the equation of what y equals and substitute in the value of x, so y = 2 + 3
