Substract 18 1/2 from 60 to determine the length of remaining rope.

[tex]\begin{gathered} 60-18\frac{1}{2}=60-\frac{37}{2} \\ =\frac{120-37}{2} \\ =\frac{83}{2} \\ =41.5 \end{gathered}[/tex]

So length of remaining rope is 41.5 inches.
