  • Let the smaller number be x and the bigger number be y.
  • Therefore, 3x = 2y [tex] = > x = \frac{2y}{3} [/tex][tex]x + y = 30 \\ = > \frac{2y}{3} + y = 30 \\ = > \frac{2y + 3y}{3} = 30 \\ = > \frac{5y}{3} = 30 \\ = > y = \frac{30 \times 3}{5} \\ = > y = 18[/tex]
  • Therefore, the smaller number = 30 - 18 = 12
