Why do -8 and 8 have the same absolute values?

Answer:

Absolute value means the non-negative, or the positive, of it's number, since eight is already a positive number, it's absolute value remains positive eight.

But since -8 is a negative number, the absolue value will give eight it's non-negative, which is positive eight.
