 x=3 and y=6

Substitute: y=2x   in place of Y in the first equation we will put 2x

x+2x= 9

1x+2x=9

3x=9

divide both sides by 3

x=3

Now go to either of the original equations and substitute the answer you got for x which is 3 to find y

y=2x  so 2 times 3 = so y =6
